Jeanne Gang, Time Magazine’s 2019 World’s Most Influential Architect, is bringing her undeniable eye and creative mind to the revitalization of Yonge and St.Clair; one of the most important intersections in the city that has not seen no new major residential development in nearly 8 decades! One Delisle is part of Slate Asset Management’s vision for the neighbourhood where retail, office, transit and residential living coincide in an area bordered by Rosedale, Moore Park, Summerhill, Forest Hill, and Deer Park. Featuring a rhythmic exterior and panoramic views, One Delisle will rise 47 stories from a rectangular retail podium and transform into a 16-sided circular tower composed of large outdoor spaces and a form that provides shading from the elements.
Bringing an abundance of comfortable outdoor space to city living, the tower is tuned to Toronto’s climate and lifestyle. Its distinctive facade comprises a series of eight-story elements, which nest together as they spiral up the building. Balconies are set within these elements, with generous terraces set atop them. Leaning outward for sun-shading and wind protection, they permit use of the balconies and terraces well into the shoulder seasons. Their angled, alternating geometry allows for variously sized floor plates that result in unique conditions within the units, bringing a diversity of residential options to the mixed-use neighborhood.

Responsive to the surrounding streetscape, the tower is rectilinear at its base to fit within the city grid and address its corner condition at Yonge Street and Delisle Avenue, transforming into a multifaceted cylindrical shape as it rises to expand views, capture more sunlight, and minimize shadows on the street. The building’s setbacks allow for widened, landscaped sidewalks, which, in addition to new small-scale retail, create a pleasant pedestrian experience. Improving urban connectivity, the design also links the important node at Yonge Street and St. Clair Avenue with the newly developed Delisle Park.

Founded and led by Jeanne Gang, Studio Gang is an architecture and urban design practice headquartered in Chicago with offices in New York, San Francisco, and Paris.
